WELCOME

Come to the edge;
We might fall.
Come to the edge;
It is too high!

COME TO THE EDGE!

And they came
And he pushed
And they flew.

This poem, actually by Christopher Logue, was originally composed for a poster advertising an Apollinaire exhibition in 1961 or 1962, and was titled "Apollinaire Said". These words written for him have always captivated me.

It is time to clear my mind, track my thoughts and write down my poems to share. Some of my favorite poets are Whitman, Collins, Hass, Cummings, Pound, Eliot, Thomas, Heaney, Stafford, Hugo, Oliver and my haiku teachers Basho, Buson and Issa. So very many more yet to read.

I have stood at the edge too long. Time to write.

In my wanderings there has been only two other men that openly stated they liked, wrote or shared poetry; Mark Morford, who I have shared many a poem while hiking in the Pacific Northwest for the last 10 years and Dick Morgan, a writer and neighbor who has more Zen than I could ever lift. Seek out Dick's most recent book, "Warrior Mind" and you will be rewarded.

Thank you both for helping me not feel so alone in my appreciation of words shaped into poetry.

(gerddi is Welsh for GARDEN ( a place to perhaps grow poems?)and Barddoniaeth is POETRY)- I like both words but love the way Welsh looks to my eye. Almost as much has I love to hear a woman sing in Portuguese ...Well, it's not really that close, she will win every time.

I don't claim to be a poet. I just like to read and write poetry. So hopefully as I write , I'll improve. But I make no promises.
